Spending time preparing for assessments is vital and whilst the majority of this should be done under your own guidance being able to touch base and have a check up with a current assessor is very useful. It could be that your training was a number of years ago, you cant quite remember certain information or you just want a bit of feedback on how you are getting on.

This 2 day course is designed to do that, it is also a great way to keep your skills fresh once you have passed the award as well.

Winter Mountain Leader Assessment Prep Programme

Day 1 – 9am meet (in Aviemore – exact location to be confirmed) with intro and setting up the course. Full day looking at personal movement and managing a group (including rope work scenarios) in steep terrain. We will also explore the scope of the award, develop our avalanche awareness based around the BAA Process from SAIS and look at introducing skills to novices.

Day 2 – 11am meet spend sometime discussing the assessment process and answering any questions. A journey day re-capping/re-visiting any areas from day 1 and then focusing on navigation including night navigation. With sunset being between 4.30pm and 5.30pm we will will aim to be off the hill around 8pm giving us 3 hours of poor visibility/night navigation.
